What: EAS/CAP Road to Compliance by Digital Alert Systems
Mr. Robertson's presentation defined the three irrefutable laws governing EAS.
He explained the major changes coming to EAS with the inclusion of Common
Alerting Protocol (CAP), showcasing recent events, which underscore these changes and
how they fit the 3 laws. Finally Mr. Robertson concluded with a “Road to Compliance”
- a simple roadmap broadcasters can follow to make sure they are ready for short and
long term EAS requirements.

Larry Bloomfield tried to bring a bunch of vendors that you may have missed when you went to NAB in April.
His trusty old truck died on him in South Dakota, but Al Jason from Harris Corporation and Dave Dielhs
from Utah Scientific filled in for Larry covering the information that Larry would have covered. We got the
information, but sadly we didn't get to see Larry’s red van or equipment this year. :(

How You Can “Ace” the Inspection.
As the alternate FCC Inspector, Charlie presented a detailed list of items he looks for. He also
had a handout which is his “checklist.” He explained the approach by emphasizing the inspection as a
learning experience; the goals are instructive and to get things right, not to be punitive. He outlined
common problem areas and discussed in detail how to avoid these issues which include: Public Inspection Files,
Chief Operator requirements, logs, and EAS.

Description: Rick Sawyer took an in-depth look at the early research and experimentation that led
to the understanding of audio comprehension and intelligibility how this has provided the
foundation for today's sophisticated audio compression algorithms used in broadcast
equipment from 25-Seven Systems.
Background: This was intended as an educational session which consists of a PowerPoint
based 1/2 presentation followed by a "live" demonstration using 25-Seven's Audio Time
Manager and /or Program Delay Manager.
